6 kinds of gear processing methods:


1. Gear hobbing:


The prototype of the gear hob is a helical gear with a large helix angle. Due to the small number of teeth (usually the number of teeth z=1), the teeth are very long, and a worm with a small helix angle is formed around the shaft. The tooth becomes a hob with a cutting edge and a relief angle.


Gear hobbing is a generative process, and its working principle is equivalent to a pair of helical gears.



2. Grinding teeth by developing method:


It can be ground with a conical grinding wheel or a dish-shaped grinding wheel, or it can be ground with a worm grinding wheel.


For hardened gears, it is often a better finishing method. The cutting motion of generative gear grinding is similar to that of gear hobbing.



3. Forming and grinding teeth:


Because the grinding wheel is not easy to dress and uses less, it also belongs to shaping and processing.



4. Gear shaper:


The reciprocating movement of the gear shaper is the main movement of the gear shaper, and the circular movement of the gear shaper and the workpiece in a fixed ratio relationship is the feed motion of the gear shaper.


When gear shaping, the gear shaping cutter and the workpiece are equivalent to the meshing of the cylindrical gear.


Gear shaping is a commonly used gear cutting process using the generative method other than gear hobbing.



5. Shaving teeth:


The working principle is to use the gear shaving cutter to make a free meshing motion with the gear to be machined. By means of the relative movement between the two, very fine chips are shaved from the tooth surface to improve the accuracy of the tooth surface.


In mass production, gear shaving is a commonly used method for non-hardened tooth surfaces.Shaving teeth can also form drum-shaped teeth to improve the position of the tooth surface contact area.



6. Tooth milling:


The processing efficiency and processing accuracy are low, and it is only suitable for single-piece small batch production.The cross-sectional shape of the milling cutter teeth corresponds to the shape between the gear teeth.


Milling teeth with a disc-shaped modular milling cutter or a finger milling cutter belongs to the forming method.
